There doesnt seem to much research on the effects of yeast on bloating, although I've found a few references to it being best avoided in dogs with an allergy to yeast:

Yeast Culture

AAFCO: The dried product composed of yeast and the media on which it is grown, dried in such a manner as to preserve the fermenting activity of the yeast.

An unnecessary, feed-grade ingredient in pet foods, added mainly as a flavoring to make inexpensive food more attractive. Lacks the nutritional value of higher quality yeast supplements. The media on which the yeast was grown is not identified. Also a potential allergen for some dogs.

There is more info on the possible effects of pet food additives on

There doesnt seem to much food around that can state that it is totally yeast free. I found this one
not only is it yeast free, but meat free.....which I'm not convinced is a 'natural' state of affairs for a dog!!But it might be a solution to avoiding yeast, and you could top up with other protein sources!

Hi sal, thanks for the info & I agree the vegi way seems wrong for a dog.  I spent alot more time over the weekend online & came up with a couple of foods that didn't mention yeast so emailed them & both are sending samples.  One is skinners hypoallergenic duck & rice /salmon & rice & do not contain yeast & is reasonably priced, the other is from a firm called Healthy Paws, they don't contain yeast or beet pulp, but in their reply told me beet pulp can also cause fermentation, giving me another ingredient  to worry about, the price of the Healthy Paws is over £40 & as I use a 15kg sack per fortnight its rather more than I can afford.  I did then google beet pulp & their seem to be very mixed views on it, their is someone called "The Great Dane lady" who is a canine nutritionist & she seems of the opinion that it has benefits & the link to bloat is false, but its all so confusing.

Anyway just waiting for the samples & info to arrive & see where to go from there.

Jo
